Paywalls: build them, or break them - or look beyond them?

That's the theme for the 13th Journalism Leaders Forum at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston on 29th October 2009.

Leading that discussion will be:

  • Gordon Crovitz, former Wall Street Journal publish and co-founder of the paid content startup JournalismOnline
  • Peter Bale, Executive Producer of Microsoft UK, and former online editorial director of The Times and The  Sunday Times, which have announced that they will be charging for access.
  • M artha Stone            , director of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers' (WAN-IFRA) Shaping the Future of the Newspaper project.
  • Robert Andrews, UK Editor of paidContent, which recently commissioned research from Harris Interactive that showed only 5 percent readers say they would pay for content
  • Frédéric Filloux, editor for the international division of the Norwegian media group Schibsted ASA and co-author of the Monday Note blog.

Chairing the panel will be the director of UCLan's Journalism Leaders Programme, François Nel, whose paper on innovations in online business models featured at the recent Future of Journalism conference in Cardiff.

To attend this free programme at 6pm on Thursday, 29th October in  Greenbank Lecture Theatre in Preston - as well as the networking reception from 5pm - please book your ticket soonest.

If you can't be there in person, there are other ways to join the discussion.

You can post your questions and comments on the Forum blog, or you can view the live Webcast by logging in as a "guest " Online participants will be able to post questions to panelists in a text chat room.

The Journalism Leaders Forum series is an activity of the Journalism Leaders Programme at the School of Journalism, Media & Communication at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, England's first wireless city and home to its oldest university journalism programme.
